Year 6 Lantern Making Workshop

Year 6 Lantern Project for the Devizes Lantern Parade
Our Year 6 pupils have been busy creating beautiful lanterns for the Devizes Lantern Parade. This hands-on project allowed them to develop a range of skills, including design planning, measuring and cutting materials accurately, constructing 3D structures, and team collaboration. Pupils also practiced problem-solving when reinforcing their lantern frames and experimented with creative decoration techniques to make their designs stand out.
The activity links closely to our History unit on World War I and II, as the lanterns incorporate themes of remembrance and resilience. Pupils reflected on how light was a symbol of hope during wartime blackouts and how communities came together in challenging times—connecting their creative work to historical understanding.
